Fairtrade is popping up everywhere

Just popped in to the local mall and was surprised to find a stall selling 'fairtradey looking stuff.' When I stopped to talk to the young shop attendant I found out that she had decided to set up her own fairtrade initiative in Nepal. Through selling her gorgeous felt puppets and bags and bits'n'bobs she is currently supporting up to 100 women and as a consequence their families. It is truly inspiring how individuals see and then do. It makes my contribution to this issue seem small but it is important to do something. Check out the link. A really great fashion accessory (and lovely puppets for anyone about to buy kids Christmas presents).

Enjoy the windows shopping

Yeah! Just received a lovely parcel full of fairtrade goodie that I can be excited about. After seeing the sales on People Tree (www.peopletree.co.uk ) I was eager to rip open the box and give them all a twirl and see if I picked or rather clicked wisely. Surprisingly, I think I lucked the sizes. I was worried that there would be a difference between UK sizes and Australian sizes but it seems 12 means 12. Quality was all good. No loose threads and all packaged well. Very excited to be getting some retail therapy. I had scrolled the webpage several times and enjoyed the windows shopping. It is an adjustment to purchase clothing online not knowing what will suit. I find that I am much more conservative in my choices and tend to stick to clothes with necklines I know suit me better. It is a skill (that I haven’t yet mastered) to chose clothes that you can imagine on your body. I normally try clothes on that I like the look of, even if I know they might make me look like a ‘before’ makeover shot.  But when you’re purchasing online and any returns require paying postage you get really good at picking more wisely. This time I’m happy to say that this fairtrader has had an exciting day of opening parcels and trying on new shiny things. Yeah!

Setting things in motion.

Last night I was feeling pretty bleak about the size of the impact out little "revolt" is having on the planet :) As I was falling asleep, Brian (my beloved) walked in and said : "hey, watch this" - So, I watched an amazing vimeo clip last night that spoke of setting things in motion. It made me stop and  consider that the conversations and the change that is happening in me, and us as we go on this journey, sets in motion things that are larger than our worlds. The mindfulness and humility needed to make these changes in our habits and inner worlds will effect everything we do, and not just the clothes we wear. Hopefully it will result in practical things that effect other people's day to day existence from colleagues and friends to the person who makes our shoes.

I have been so encouraged by the comments on our facebook page. It is so exciting having friends and family join the journey as we struggle together and share tips and thoughts. Our little contributions and efforts to spend wisely and be thoughtful maybe do make a difference - in us and around us. Lets keep spreading the word :)
